Hello! I am Katie and I am currently a third year student in the Masters of Education program at the University of Northern British Colombia.

I live in St. John’s Newfoundland, where I respectfully acknowledge the ancestral homelands of the Indigenous people who have shaped this place, and the Mi’kmaq, Innu and Inuit whose histories and cultures continue to enrich our province.
I live here with my partner, Connor, and our two cats. For the past six years, I have been a classroom teacher in Northern Alberta and throughout different parts of Newfoundland and Labrador. My experience spans intermediate and secondary grades, most often in English Language Arts, and includes working with learners from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. These students and the school community have helped to shape the educator I am today.
My journey into this program was deeply influenced by the students I have worked with and the many perspectives I have encountered throughout my teaching degree. When deciding on a masters degree, I wanted a program that would challenge me, broaden my thinking, and meaningfully support my growth. This program has done exactly that and brings together educators with varied experiences and viewpoints offering new ways to understand and engage with the complexities of education.
